Estimate how many records a data quality operation can validate in a selected period after allowing for productive utilization. Combine parallel workers, tested throughput per worker-hour, available hours, and incoming demand. The result includes effective capacity, demand gap, utilization required to meet demand, and the worker count needed at the current rate. Use sustained throughput from representative runs rather than a short peak.
Effective capacity = workers × rate × time × utilization
Required workers = ceiling(demand ÷ capacity per worker). The demand gap equals effective capacity minus demand.
A positive gap indicates spare capacity under the assumptions; a negative gap indicates expected backlog. Required utilization above 100% means staffing, speed, time, scope, or demand must change.
Capacity is only as reliable as the unit definition and sustained-rate estimate. Account for quality review and rework in the utilization or rate.
Four workers at 2,500 records per hour for 8 hours at 80% utilization provide capacity for 64,000 records. Against demand of 100,000, the gap is −36,000 records and seven workers are needed at the same assumptions.
