Formula

Base robots = ceiling[demand ÷ (scheduled minutes ÷ cycle × utilization × completion rate)]
Planned fleet = ceiling[base robots × (1 + reserve)]

What the result means

The main result is a whole-robot planning requirement after reserve. The base fleet meets modeled average demand without the extra reserve.

Validate average cycle time and utilization with representative production data; peaks, task mix, and shared resources may require additional capacity.

Example calculation

For 1,200 daily tasks, a 4-minute cycle, 16 scheduled hours, 75% utilization, and 98% completion, one robot provides 176.4 tasks/day. Seven base robots are needed; a 10% reserve rounds the planned fleet to eight.

Why does the calculator always round robot count up?

A fraction of a robot cannot cover the remaining demand, so required fleet counts are rounded up.

What should be included in productive utilization?

Account for changeovers, planned stops, charging, maintenance, waiting, and other nonproductive scheduled time.

Is reserve capacity the same as utilization loss?

No. Utilization affects normal output per robot; reserve adds fleet capacity for outages or demand variation.
