Delivery Drone Task Capacity Calculator

Estimate completed deliveries per day for an operating drone fleet. The model combines aircraft count, service hours, full delivery-cycle time, drops per sortie, productive utilization, and weather availability.

Calculator

Planning inputs
drones
Aircraft scheduled for productive service.
hr/day
Hours deliveries may operate.
min
Dispatch through return and readiness.
drops
Successful customer handoffs per cycle.
%
Share of scheduled time used for cycles.
%
Share of planned service retained after weather.

How to use this calculator

  1. Count only drones assigned to active delivery service.
  2. Use a complete average cycle including ground handling.
  3. Enter drops per feasible sortie.
  4. Apply utilization and weather availability separately.

Formula

Daily deliveries = Drones × Scheduled minutes ÷ Cycle time × Drops per sortie × Utilization × Weather availability

What the result means

The result represents whole completed deliveries on an average day with the entered availability. It is a throughput estimate rather than a route schedule.

Demand timing, route mix, pad and charger bottlenecks, failed handoffs, airspace closures, and payload constraints can further limit throughput.

Example calculation

Twenty drones operating 10 hours with a 24-minute cycle, one delivery per sortie, 75% utilization, and 85% weather availability complete 318 whole deliveries per day.

Tips for better results

  • Build cycle time from dispatch logs.
  • Use a weighted average for route types.
  • Track weather availability by season.
  • Model multi-drop routes only when operationally approved.
  • Check hourly capacity during the demand peak.

Frequently asked questions

Why are utilization and weather availability separate?

Utilization covers operational delays within available time, while weather availability removes time when flights cannot operate.

Does the result include failed delivery attempts?

Only if failed attempts are already reflected in cycle time or a lower utilization assumption.

How should multiple drops on one route be entered?

Enter the average number of successfully completed customer deliveries per sortie.

Why is the main result rounded down?

Only fully completed deliveries count toward daily task capacity.

Can reserve drones be included in active drones?

Include them only if they are scheduled to fly; otherwise keep them outside base capacity.
