Formula

Effective coverage per autonomous mobile robot = nominal coverage × usable factor × (1 − overlap rate)
Units required = ceiling(target area ÷ effective coverage)
Reserve = installed effective coverage − target area

What the result means

The main result is rounded up because a fraction of a device cannot cover the remaining area. Reserve shows how much modeled effective coverage remains after satisfying the target.

Uniform coverage is assumed. Split the site into zones when aisles, walls, radio shadows, restricted areas, or travel paths make coverage uneven.

Example calculation

For 18,000 m² with 650 m² nominal coverage, 80% usable coverage, and 10% overlap, each unit contributes 468.0 effective m². The rounded requirement is 39 robots.

Overlap reduces unique effective coverage per unit, so a higher overlap percentage can increase the rounded number of units required.

Why does the calculator round the requirement up?

Any uncovered remainder still needs a complete unit, so the result uses a ceiling rather than ordinary rounding.

Can I use square feet instead of square meters?

Yes. Use the same area unit for both target area and per-unit coverage; the unit count is unchanged.

How should I model a site with several disconnected zones?

Calculate each zone separately and add the rounded unit counts, because units usually cannot share fractional coverage across disconnected areas.
