Measure how much of available cold chain capacity is actually used during a planning period. Enter both weight and space because the more constrained dimension determines practical utilization. The calculator also shows unused capacity and the additional load needed to reach a chosen target without exceeding the stated limit.
Weight utilization = loaded weight ÷ weight capacity × 100. Space utilization = occupied positions ÷ available positions × 100. Practical utilization is the higher percentage because it identifies the limiting dimension.
A high percentage means the operation is close to the limit in at least one dimension. It does not automatically mean the load is efficient: weight distribution, compatibility, temperature zones, schedules, and service risk still matter.
Use capacities from the same equipment pool and time period. Do not combine weekly loads with daily capacity.
A load using 720 of 1,000 tons is 72% utilized by weight. Using 82 of 100 pallet positions is 82% by space, so practical utilization is 82%. Ten more occupied positions remain before the space limit.
Use one consistent operating or accounting period for every input. Mixing daily volume with monthly capacity or cost will distort the result.

Zero is accepted where it represents no cost, dwell, demand, or successful shipments. Required capacities, shipment totals, speed, and productive rates must be greater than zero.
