How to use this calculator

  1. Define the route-level service conditions before counting.
  2. Enter total completed routes and the count passing each condition.
  3. Enter routes passing every condition together, not a sum of separate counts.
  4. Add a target and calculate the percentage-point and route-count gap.

Formula

Fleet routing service level = all-condition routes ÷ total completed routes × 100
Additional compliant routes = max(0, ceiling(target % × total routes) − current all-condition routes)

What the result means

The result shows how often a completed route delivered the full defined service outcome. Individual component rates help identify which condition has the most failures.

This is a route-level measure. Do not compare it directly with shipment-level service unless the reporting unit and failure rules are aligned.

Example calculation

If 160 of 180 completed routes met every service condition, the service level is 88.89%. A 92% target requires 166 compliant routes, so 6 additional routes would need to pass at the same volume.

  • Use route or shift averages from the same reporting period so the inputs describe one operating pattern.
  • Separate unusual disruptions from routine operations before treating the result as a planning baseline.
  • Recalculate after changing vehicle mix, labor rules, loading methods, or customer time commitments.

Why count fully compliant routes instead of averaging component rates?

Averaging can overstate the share of routes that actually passed every condition at once.

Can a route be on time but still fail service level?

Yes. It may miss a planned stop or have another defined service failure even though it returned on time.

Should unfinished or canceled routes be in total completed routes?

Only if your documented metric includes them. The denominator definition must remain consistent between periods.

How is the target route count rounded?

It is rounded upward because a fraction of a compliant route cannot satisfy the target.

Can I replace failure-free with another service condition?

Yes. Use a condition relevant to your operation, then apply that same definition to the all-condition count.
