Formula

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

Availability = run time ÷ planned time. Performance = ideal cycle time × total units ÷ run time. Quality = good units ÷ total units.

What the result means

OEE shows how much of the theoretical fully productive time became good output. Review availability, performance, and quality independently instead of treating the combined percentage as a diagnosis.

An OEE result is only comparable when planned time, ideal cycle time, and good-unit rules are defined consistently.

Example calculation

For 480 planned minutes, 420 run minutes, a 2-minute ideal cycle, 190 total units, and 180 good units: availability is 87.50%, performance is 90.48%, quality is 94.74%, and OEE is 75.00%.

Can OEE performance be above 100 percent?

It can appear above 100% when the ideal cycle time is too slow or counts are inconsistent; review those inputs.

Should planned maintenance be included in planned production time?

Exclude it when the time was never scheduled for production; keep the rule consistent.

Do reworked units count as good units in this OEE calculation?

Count them as good only if your quality definition accepts them in the measured pass.

Why is OEE zero when run time is zero?

With no run time there is no productive output in the measured window, so the combined result is zero.

Can I compare OEE across different products?

Only with care, because ideal cycle times and quality definitions must be accurate for each product mix.
