What the result means

Feed efficiency compares milk output with dry-matter intake. Energy-corrected milk adds context for milk composition, making comparisons more useful when fat and protein differ.

Compare consistent groups and time periods. Changes in body condition, stage of lactation, forage quality, and weather can affect the ratio.

For 100 cows eating 52 lb DMI and producing 75 lb milk at 3.8% fat and 3.1% protein, feed efficiency is 1.442 and ECM efficiency is about 1.503.
