Olympic Lifting Race Prediction Calculator

Project a realistic Olympic weightlifting meet total from recent training lifts. Enter your best recent snatch and clean and jerk, how close those lifts were to maximum effort, current readiness, and how conservative you want the attempt plan to be. The result includes projected third-attempt targets, total, and Sinclair-free bodyweight ratio. This is a meet-planning estimate rather than a promise of competition performance.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the best recent successful snatch and clean and jerk.
  2. Rate how close those lifts were to maximum effort using RPE.
  3. Adjust readiness and planned conservatism.
  4. Use projected lifts as planning anchors, then round attempts to valid meet increments.

Formula

Estimated max = recent lift ÷ (1.04 − 0.02 × RPE)
Meet lift = estimated max × readiness × (1 − conservatism)

What the result means

The projected total is the sum of the two projected lifts before meet-specific rounding. Treat it as an upper planning anchor; openers should be based on highly repeatable lifts.

Competition outcomes depend on attempt selection, judging, travel, bodyweight management, and technique under pressure.

Example calculation

With a 90 kg snatch and 115 kg clean and jerk at RPE 9, 95% readiness, and 2% conservatism, the projections are 97.4 kg and 124.5 kg, for a 221.9 kg total.

Tips for better results

  • Use recent technically valid lifts, not missed or assisted attempts.
  • Set openers from weights you can make under imperfect conditions.
  • Round final attempt choices to competition rules.
  • Lower readiness after illness, travel, or a difficult cut.
  • Recalculate when a new lift meaningfully changes the estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Why can the projection be below my recent lifts?

Readiness and conservatism can reduce the meet estimate below a gym lift, especially when the input effort was already high.

What RPE should I enter for a true maximum?

Use 10 for a genuine maximal successful lift with no additional load likely that day.

Does this calculator choose all six attempts?

No. It estimates third-attempt-level outcomes; openers and second attempts still require coaching judgment.

Does the total use official rounding?

The displayed total keeps decimal precision. Round each lift to the increments required by your competition.

Is total-to-bodyweight the same as a Sinclair score?

No. It is a simple ratio and does not apply the current Sinclair coefficient table.
