Formula

Complete samples = floor((available volume − reserved volume) ÷ volume per sample).

What the result means

Capacity counts only complete samples. Any remainder is reported separately instead of being rounded into another sample.

Add pipetting loss or dead volume to the reserve when your vessel or transfer method cannot recover all nominal volume.

Example calculation

From 250 mL, reserving 25 mL and using 5 mL per sample leaves 225 mL usable, enough for 45 complete samples with no remainder.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the bacterial growth sample capacity round down?

Only complete samples are usable, so a partial remaining volume or reagent allocation is not counted as another sample.

Should dead volume be included?

Yes. Put unrecoverable liquid, pipetting loss, or an operational cushion into the reserve input so capacity is not overstated.

Does the result account for plate or rotor capacity?

No. The result is material-limited capacity; equipment slots, wells, timing, and workflow constraints must be checked separately.

Can the leftover support a partial sample?

It may support a partial preparation, but the headline deliberately counts only complete samples that meet the entered requirement.

How should technical replicates be handled?

Use the replicate input when provided, or include the total volume required for all replicates in the per-sample volume.
