Formula

Gross reuse = effluent available × capture rate. Net daily savings = min(gross reuse, freshwater demand) − process freshwater use, limited to no less than zero. Annual savings = net daily savings × operating days.

What the result means

Net savings counts only recovered water that can displace actual freshwater demand, then subtracts freshwater consumed by the reuse process. Excess recovered water beyond demand is not counted as conservation.

This is a water-balance estimate. Verify water quality, seasonal demand, storage, permitting, and whether process-water consumption is already included in site demand.

Example calculation

From 100,000 gal/day of effluent at 70% capture, gross reuse is 70,000 gal/day. With 90,000 gal/day of offsettable demand and 5,000 gal/day of process water, net savings are 65,000 gal/day. Over 300 days, that is 19.5 million gallons.

Yes, if the reuse system and compatible demand operate every day; otherwise enter the expected annual operating days.

What happens when process water exceeds useful reuse?
