How to use this office tool

  1. Choose exactly two XLSX, XLS, CSV, or TSV files.
  2. Select a common sheet and decide whether text comparison should be exact or normalized.
  3. Run the comparison, review the bounded preview, and download the XLSX difference report.

What this tool does

Compare two spreadsheet files cell by cell and download a clear difference report without sending either workbook to a server.

The selected sheets are aligned by row and column position, then each unequal cell is written to a new XLSX audit report with both values.

This is a positional comparison. Sort both sources the same way first if row order can change.

Supported formats

Supported inputs and outputs for Excel Difference Finder.

FormatSupport
XLSX/XLSReads cell values and formulas exposed by the browser parser.
CSV/TSVCompares the single parsed table.
OutputXLSX report listing sheet, cell, first value, and second value.

Tips for better results

  • Use the same export date and column order in both files.
  • For reordered records, sort on a stable ID before comparing.
  • Normalized mode ignores text case and surrounding spaces, but it does not coerce numbers into text.

FAQ

Can this Excel difference finder compare formulas?

It compares the parsed cell content and records displayed values; formula text may be included when available, but it does not reproduce Excel’s calculation engine.

Does row order affect the comparison?

Yes. Cells are compared by position, so sort both files consistently before running the tool if rows may have moved.

Can I ignore capitalization and extra spaces?

Choose normalized comparison to ignore letter case and whitespace at the beginning or end of text cells.

What happens when one sheet has extra rows?

Cells that exist in only one file are reported as differences with a blank value on the other side.

Are my workbooks uploaded?

No. Parsing and report creation run locally in your browser.
