XLSX and XLS files are read with SheetJS in the browser. CSV and TSV are supported where the operation has a meaningful tabular result. Advanced Excel objects may not be preserved.

How do I split Excel rows into separate sheets by category?

Enter the one-based number of the category column. Each distinct value becomes a separate output worksheet.

What happens to blank values in the split column?

Rows with blank split values are placed in a worksheet named Blank.

Are unsafe worksheet-name characters handled?

Yes. Invalid characters are removed and names are shortened to Excel's 31-character worksheet limit.

Is the header row copied to every split sheet?

Yes. The first row is treated as the header and is included in every generated worksheet.

Can a large number of categories create too many sheets?

Yes. The tool limits the number of output groups to keep the browser responsive and reports an error when the limit is exceeded.
