Formula

Good units = total units − rejected units
Energy throughput = good units ÷ kWh consumed

What the result means

This is an energy-intensity productivity measure, not production speed. It is most useful when the meter boundary, product mix, and reporting period stay consistent.

Include all energy inside the chosen process boundary and use the same boundary in every comparison.

Example calculation

With 12,000 total units, 360 rejects, and 18,000 kWh, good output is 11,640 units. Throughput is 0.6467 good units/kWh, or 1.5464 kWh per good unit.

  • Replace default assumptions with project or facility records.
  • Keep unrounded values through the calculation and round only the final purchasing or reporting figure.

No. This calculator uses good units so the result reflects saleable output.

Can I compare two products using units per kWh?

Why can energy per unit rise while output rises?

Energy use may grow faster than good output, especially with extra starts, idle time, or rejects.

It accepts kWh. Convert other energy sources to a consistent kWh-equivalent before combining them.
