Formula

Net vine demand = vines × gallons per vine per day × days × (1 − rainfall offset). Gross delivery = net demand ÷ irrigation efficiency.

What the result means

The main result is gross water that the irrigation system needs to deliver during the selected period.

Use local evapotranspiration, crop coefficient, soil moisture, rooting depth, phenological stage, and regulated-deficit strategy to set the daily vine demand.

Example calculation

For 3,000 vines at 2.5 gal/day over 21 days, with 10% effective-rainfall offset and 90% efficiency, net demand is 141,750 gal and gross delivery is 157,500 gal.
