Formula

Case cycle = procedure minutes + turnover minutes
Theoretical cases/day = rooms × scheduled minutes ÷ case cycle
Practical cases/month = theoretical cases/day × days × practical factor

What the result means

The main result is the estimated number of cases per month at the selected practical factor. The unadjusted cycles-per-room figure is a mathematical ceiling based on average duration.

Case duration varies by specialty and complexity. Emergencies, cancellations, anesthesia time definitions, recovery constraints, staffing, equipment, and block allocation are not inferred.

Example calculation

For 8 rooms, 10 scheduled hours/day, 110 procedure minutes, 30 turnover minutes, 22 days, and an 85% factor:

Cycle = 140 minutes
Theoretical cases/day = 8 × 600 ÷ 140 = 34.29
Practical cases/month = 34.29 × 22 × 0.85 = 640.94

  • Keep emergency reserve outside elective capacity.

Only for a rough blended scenario; specialty-level calculations are more reliable when durations differ.
