What this tool does

Recognize text on scanned PDF pages and create a new searchable PDF with page images and an invisible OCR text layer, entirely in your browser.

Render pages → OCR visible pixels → rebuild PDF with a searchable text layer

The output preserves each page as a rendered image. It does not retain interactive forms, links, or original vector objects.

Supported formats

Accepts standard PDF files supported by PDF.js. Encrypted, damaged, XFA-only, and extremely large documents may not open in the browser.

  • Keep this tab active during CPU-intensive rendering or OCR.
  • Review extracted names, dates, and numbers before relying on the output.

FAQ

Can ocr pdf process password-protected PDFs?

No. Unlock the PDF with its valid password before using this browser tool. Encrypted files that PDF.js cannot open are reported as errors.

Does ocr pdf upload my document?

No. The selected file is processed locally by JavaScript in your browser. The page does not send the PDF to a conversion server.

Why can OCR results differ from the scanned page?

Recognition depends on scan resolution, contrast, rotation, language, and typography. Clear scans near 300 DPI usually work better than blurred or skewed pages.

What is the practical file-size limit for ocr pdf?

There is no fixed server limit, but available browser memory is the real constraint. Large or high-resolution documents should be processed in smaller page ranges.

Will the original PDF be changed?

No. The source file remains untouched. Any downloadable result is created as a new file in browser memory.
