What this tool does

Strip document-level JavaScript, automatic actions, and additional-action dictionaries from a PDF before sharing it.

The tool walks the PDF object graph, removes JavaScript name trees and action dictionaries, then saves a newly serialized PDF.

This reduces script-based behavior. It does not certify a PDF as malware-free.

Supported formats

Standard, unencrypted PDF files that pdf-lib can parse. Signed PDFs will lose signature validity after modification.

Can this remove JavaScript that runs when a PDF opens?

Yes. It removes the document OpenAction when it is an action and deletes JavaScript name trees and additional-action dictionaries.

Does removing PDF JavaScript make every PDF safe?

No. It removes common script action structures, but it is not a complete malware scanner or security certification.

Will this preserve a digital signature?

No. Any rewrite changes the PDF bytes and invalidates existing cryptographic signatures.

Can it process a password-protected PDF?

No. Unlock the file with its authorized password before using this browser tool.

Are links and bookmarks removed too?

Ordinary links and bookmarks are retained unless they are represented as JavaScript actions.
