Handling sensitive PDFs with a little more care
Security and privacy work is not just about adding a password. PDFs can carry visible information, hidden metadata, comments, attachments, form data, and text that may remain recoverable after a careless “redaction.” Before sending a sensitive file, it is worth checking both what the reader can see and what the document still contains behind the page appearance.
For redaction, covering text with a black rectangle is not enough if the underlying text can still be selected, copied, or extracted. After any privacy cleanup, reopen the saved file and test it as if you were the recipient. Search for the removed names or numbers, inspect metadata where appropriate, and make sure the final copy contains only what you intended to share.
