Estimate wall studs, top-and-bottom plate length, and sheathing sheets for a rectangular timber-framed wall scope. Openings are deducted from sheathing area while stud and plate quantities remain visible for planning adjustments.
Plate length = wall length × plate runs. Sheathing sheets = ceil[(length × height − openings) ÷ sheet coverage].
The stud count is a base layout count along continuous wall length. It deliberately does not guess the extra framing required by corners, headers, jack studs, or intersecting walls.
Use drawings and local code for final member sizes, grades, headers, hold-downs, and opening details.
For 160 ft of 8-ft wall with 16-in spacing, the base count is ceil(1,920 ÷ 16) + 1 = 121 studs. Three plate runs require 480 linear ft. After 120 sq ft of openings, 1,160 sq ft requires 37 sheets at 32 sq ft each.
No. It is a base spacing count; add king studs, jack studs, headers, sills, and cripples from the opening details.
The simplified stud formula uses continuous wall layout; opening framing cannot be estimated accurately from opening area alone.
