What the result means
The main result is the purchasable quantity after both percentage allowance and bundle rounding. The two effects are shown separately so the order is auditable.
Choose a waste percentage from project conditions and purchasing policy; the calculator does not prescribe a universal allowance.
Example calculation
For 500 pieces with 8% waste, the raw quantity is 540 pieces. With bundles of 20, the order remains 540 pieces. At $7.50 each, estimated cost is $4,050.
Tips for better results
- Use separate rates for repetitive walls and complex cut-up areas.
- Match bundle size to the supplier’s actual sales unit.
- Do not add waste twice if the takeoff already contains an allowance.
- Track unused recoverable stock apart from true waste.
Frequently asked questions
Does bundle rounding count as waste?
It is shown separately because unopened or reusable surplus may not become physical waste.
Can the waste allowance be zero?
Yes. The order will then reflect only the net quantity and bundle rounding.
Should I enter board feet or pieces?
Use one consistent unit; the label says pieces, so convert board-foot orders separately unless one piece is your purchasing unit.
Why does the order jump by a full bundle?
Orders are rounded upward so the selected bundle size can cover the raw required quantity.
Is the cost result tax-inclusive?
No. It multiplies order pieces by cost per piece and does not add tax, delivery, or discounts.
