Formula

Planned days = [wall area ÷ (crew-day rate × crews)] × (1 + contingency %)

What the result means

The result is a count of productive workdays. The calendar-week result uses the selected workweek but does not insert project-specific holidays or blackout dates.

The calculation assumes parallel crews can maintain the entered rate. Check material supply, floor access, inspections, and shared equipment.

Example calculation

For 24,000 sq ft, two crews at 960 sq ft per crew-day provide 1,920 sq ft/day. Base duration is 12.5 days; with 10% contingency the plan is 13.75 working days, or 2.75 five-day weeks.

  • Base the rate on a comparable wall system and crew.
  • Use separate schedule lines for floors with different complexity.
  • Test whether added crews have enough independent work fronts.
  • Place holidays and inspections in the detailed project calendar.

Does the area include openings?

Use the same area convention as the productivity rate; net and gross area cannot be mixed without distorting duration.

Can I enter a six-day workweek?

Yes. Set workdays per week to six to convert working days into planned weeks.

What does contingency add?

It adds a percentage of base productive days; it does not identify the specific cause of delay.

Why is the result not rounded to a whole day?

The decimal preserves planning detail; round according to shift scheduling and turnover needs.

Will two crews always finish twice as fast?

Only under the formula’s assumption that both crews sustain full output without congestion or shared constraints.
