Preparing pages that will actually print the way you expect

Print and layout tools deal with the gap between a PDF that looks fine on a monitor and one that must fit real paper. Page dimensions, orientation, margins, scaling, bleed, crop space, and imposition all affect the result. Problems often appear when a document mixes page sizes or when a file designed for screen viewing is sent straight to a printer without checking the target paper size.

Work backward from the final output. Know whether the file will be printed on Letter, A4, booklet sheets, labels, or another format, and whether the printer is expected to scale the pages. If exact dimensions matter, avoid relying on “fit to page” as a last-minute fix. A quick test print of one representative page can reveal clipped edges or unreadable scaling before you commit to the full job.
